“Together we will spread the Good News ”
Welcome to our church website. For the church as for the rest of society we have seen great upheaval over the last two years. Many services are now shown on Zoom as well as taking place in church. Also, since June 2021 the Parish has been without a vicar, following the retirement of the Rev Rob Fieldson. Until we welcome our new vicar, we continue to provide a range of worship services and pastoral care through our lay team with support from local clergy.
We continue to provide creative resources to help children engage with faith. For details contact Caroline Mara our Children’s and Families Missioner on 07935 245244 or see the St Andrews and St Michaels Family Facebook Group.
2nd and 4th Sundays 3pm – 4pm Foundry: Church for Everyone. Our Foundry congregation are spending this term outdoors.
Sunday 13th February 3-4pm in the grounds of St Michael’s Church. ‘Wild Church’ with the theme of love.

Safeguarding Policy Promoting a Safer Church (15 Jun 2021)
COVID 19-Safe Measures July 2021 for St Michaels, St Andrews and the Parish Centre.
Following the UK Government’s adoption on 19th July of Step 4 on the Roadmap for Covid recovery, the PCC met on the 20th July and reviewed what our attitude should be to opening-up Church and social activities in the Parish Centre.
It was decided that a cautious approach was still needed, whilst seeking to relax some restraints and to offer something for as many people as possible. The approach is summarised below: –
1. Where full 2m social distancing is not possible, face masks to be worn in church and during congregational singing, which will be permitted.
2. Around the Parish Centre face mask to be worn in circulating spaces including WC’s and kitchen. Also, in meetings/activities where other mitigating actions cannot be taken.
3. Mitigating actions should be adopted wherever possible and these include :
Social distancing. Hand sanitisation on entering and leaving our buildings and at outdoor activities. Good ventilation by either being outdoors or the opening of windows and doors for the duration of inside gatherings. The cleaning of all touchable hard surfaces following such activities.
4. The numbers of people permitted to attend any activity in church, in the Parish Centre or outdoors will be determined by specific Risk Assessments, but the guiding principle will to ensure the reasonable safety of all those attending or likely to be affected, and therefore constraints will apply in some cases.
CHURCH EVENTS
If you have any of the known symptoms for COVID, please do not attend any event.

A Prayer For This Time
Loving God, we pray to you through Christ the Healer for those across the world who suffer from Covid-19.
We pray too for all who mourn the loss of someone who has died from the disease.
Give wisdom to policymakers, skill to healthcare professionals and researchers, comfort to everyone in distress, and a sense of hope for us all in these days of uncertainty and fear.
We ask this in Jesus’ name.
Amen.

ECO Christmas
Need not greed
Christmas is a time when we all love to celebrate with lots of food and gifts but do you sometimes end up throwing away excess food or receive gifts that you don’t really want or need ? Everything we buy uses up the earths resources and has a carbon footprint. Find out more at Consumption Natural resources and the environment | Friends of the Earth. Are there ways that you could just consume a bit less this year?
Christmas Trees – Real vs Fake
Studies have shown that unless you use a fake tree for 10+ years, a real tree is better for the environment. If you go for a real tree, choose one that has been grown locally and recycle (they can be turned into chippings). More info available from the soil association: Christmas Trees – Real vs Fake | Sustainable Christmas (soilassociation.org)
Choose Seasonal vegetables
Choose traditional vegetables like potatoes, sprouts, carrots, parsnips and leeks, ideally grown locally. These can be purchased from a local farmers market (details available on the ECO Church web page )
Get creative with gift wrapping
A lot of wrapping paper contains plastic so is not recyclable. If it’s plastic it will not scrunch up. Instead, try using brown paper, adding your own decoration with stamps or greenery from the garden. You could even create your own freehand designs. String or Japanese Washi tape can be used instead of plastic adhesive tape. Another alternative is drawstring bags that can be reused.
Avoid buying new plastic decorations
The great thing about plastic is that it is long lasting so Christmas decorations can be used over and over again and it’s great to welcome ‘old friends’ each year. If you want to introduce new decorations, why not try making Christmas wreathes and table decorations using greenery from the garden. There are some great youtube clips that will show you how. Felt and knitted Christmas decorations look great and are fun to make too.
Consider local traders, fairtrade and natural materials for Christmas gifts
Instead of going to big chains or on-line retailers, why not try local independent shops like Natures Intention in Bromsgrove who sell ECO friendly produce (Nature’s Intention | Zero Waste Shop (natures-intention.co.uk) or support a charity like Urban Neighbours of Hope (John & Elise Fletcher) who sell jewellery produced in the slums of Thailand (RoyRak). Traidcraft also support many local cooperatives (Fair Trade Products & Ethical Gifts | Traidcraft Online Shop (traidcraftshop.co.uk). If you are buying clothes, natural materials like wool, cotton and bamboo are more sustainable that man made fibres. If you are buying electronic goods, could you buy refurbished rather than new items?
Donate superceded Electronics
If you are replacing electronic equipment such as TV’s, tablets, phones or laptops, your old ones can be re-used. Laptops, tablets, phones, printers and desktops can be donated to ‘IT schools for Africa’ via Philippa Fieldson and can be dropped off at the Parish Centre or the Vicarage. Details of what they will take can be found at Equipment specifications (itschoolsafrica.org). Birmingham City Mission are always glad to accept old electronic items, particularly TV’s as long as they are flat screen. Contact details can be found at Birmingham City Mission | Providing for those in need – Birmingham City Mission
